Abstract:A large rutile type titanium deposit has been discovered in Nanpo village in Zibo city in Shandong province. The deposit is located in the middle and lower part of Benxi formation of Carboniferous system and belongs to ancient weathering crust sedimentary type deposit. Four ore bodies have been identified, which are layered and strictly controlled by geological strata. The average thickness of main ore body (Ⅰore body) is 5.87 m, the average grade of TiO2 is 1.53%, and 156000 tons of rutile-type titanium minerals have been discovered. The ore minerals are mainly rutile, accompanied by various beneficial components, such as niobium tantalum, lithium, gallium and scandium. The mineralization of mineral deposits is controlled by multiple factors. The aluminum rock series of Benxi formation serves as the ore bearing foundation, and regional unconformity formed by tectonic uplift in late Ordovician period is key controlling factor. The warm and humid paleoclimate of late Carboniferous has promoted the weathering of the parent rock. The platform lagoon facies paleogeography has provided a stable sedimentary enrichment environment. Geological characteristics of the deposit has been summarized, and the controlling factors of mineralization has been analyzed. It will provide a theoretical basis for the exploration and prospecting of similar rutile type titanium deposits in the North China.
