Abstract:The Fry method is a finite strain measurement method based on the relative position of strain markers. It is widely used in the field of structural geology research. The traditional paper-based operation method is cumbersome and time-consuming. Existing computing programs are less commonly used due to the discontinuation of programming languages, low level of visualization, or strong subjectivity. Based on the ArcGIS platform, by using Python language, a new fry method strain measurement program has been developed. After manually marking the center point of the strain indicator on the point feature class, the fry diagram can be quickly obtained by running the program. After interactively inputting the possible range and step size of the semi major axis, semi minor axis, and rotation angle of the hollow ellipse, the point density method can be used to calculate the best fitting ellipse and output the corresponding data. In this paper, through two examples, it is proved that the program is easy to operate and the results are objective.
