Abstract:The domestic high resolution satellite 6 (GF6 for short) has the characteristics of high resolution, wide coverage, high quality and efficient imaging. It can provide reliable data support for remote sensing monitoring of agricultural resources. In this study, taking GF6 satellite image as the main data source, by using the theory and method of remote sensing technology comprehensively, the cotton planting areas have been extracted in Xiajin county. At the same time, the interpretation results of Sentinel2 (Sentinel2 for short) image are used for comparative analysis. It is showed that the extraction scheme of cotton planting area in Xiajin county based on GF6 satellite is efficient and accurate, and the extraction accuracy is significantly better than that of Sentinel2 satellite. It is proved that the newly added GF6 satellite with red edge band can significantly enhance the recognition ability of crops. It has broad application potential in largescale crop planting information extraction.
