Abstract:The heavy metal elements in surface sediments of 127 stations in Weihai offshore area have been analyzed and tested. The environmental quality of the study area has been evaluated by using single factor pollution index method, comprehensive pollution index method, overstandard classification method and potential ecological hazard method. The evaluation results are as follows: the single factor pollutant index of seabed surface sediments in the study area is low, only two heavy metals as Cu and Cr are found to exceed the standard of one kind of sediments. The environmental quality of seabed surface sediments is in a clean state as a whole, and individual stations are in a permissible state. The pollution types are mainly in category Ⅰ. Class Ⅱ mainly contains a small amount of Class Ⅲ. Class Ⅱ is divided into two subcategories of pollution: Class Ⅱ1Cr and Class Ⅱ2Cu. Class Ⅲ is also divided into two subcategories of pollution as Class Ⅲ1CrCu and Class Ⅲ2CuCr. The ecological hazards of various heavy metals are low.
