Abstract:The weathering process of dinosaur fossils is relatively complex, and there are many factors that cause the destruction of dinosaur fossils. The freezethaw cycle is one of the important factors. In this paper, the mechanism of weathering destruction of dinosaur fossils and surrounding rocks caused by freezethaw cycle has been studied through indoor experiments. It is proved that the freezethaw cycle will reduce the strength and elastic modulus of the surrounding rocks, and multiple freezethaw cycles will cause the surrounding rocks and fossils to suffer from mass loss, mudization, and block loss. The freezethaw cycle has a great effect on the physical destruction of fossils.
