Abstract:In the study of "fingerprint" identification by using Taishan jade, samples from serpentine jade producing areas in China have been collected systematically, and trace elements have been tested. There are some differences in trace elements between samples from different producing areas and trace elements from Taishan jade, which are similar to human fingerprint. It can be used to identify Taishan jade. Regarding the Yuanyang jade in Wushan county of Gansu province as an example, the average abundances of elements in Chinese ultramafic rocks are used to standardize the trace element contents of two producing areas. Comparing with spider diagram, it is considered that five elements, such as V, Sc, Sb, Tl, and Zn have universal differences in the two production areas. It can be used as the “fingerprint” basis for the identification of jade in the two places. In other places between serpentine jade and Taishan jade, due to the difference of geological environment in production areas, “fingerprints” of trace elements can be used to distinguish from Taishan jade.
