Geological Characteristics of Taishan Jade Deposit in Shandong Province

泰山玉产于山东省泰安市泰山山麓，属蛇纹岩质玉石，形成于新太古代五台期，距今约26亿年。玉石呈墨色、浅绿—墨绿色，致密块状，质地细腻温润，油脂光泽，不透明—半透明，硬度4.8～5.5。根据玉石的颜色、杂质成分、显微结构等特征可分为泰山墨玉、泰山碧玉和泰山翠斑玉3类。泰山玉矿床是由富镁超基性岩受高温气体—液体作用变质而成，属变质超基性岩浆矿床。

Abstract:

Taishan jade is produced in Taishan mountain in Tai'an city of Shandong province. It belongs to serpentinite quality jade, and formed in Neoarchean Wutai formation in about 26 million years ago. The jade was black, light green and dark green with dense block. Its texture is delicate, moist, oil sheen and opaquetranslucent. Its hardness is 4.8~5.5. According to the color of jade, impurity composition, microstructure and other characteristics, it can be divided into three types, such as Taishan black jade, Taishan jasper and Taishan coroba plaque jade. Taishan jade deposit is formed by high temperature gasliquid metamorphism of Mgrich ultramafic rocks. It belongs to metamorphosed ultrabasic magmatic deposits.
