Abstract:Based on the flat terrain, quaternary covering, uniform surface soil and good grounding conditions of Qutan survey area ,a new geophysical measuring method with the use of five-pole vertical electrical sounding has been applied to look for underground karst water. By measuring visual resistivity and induced polarization of the secondary field, as well as interpreting the anomalous features of geophysical prospecting and verifying the boreholes in deep sections, an underground karst water source with the daily capacity of over 1000 tons has been successfully found in the edge of Longyan Basin within the Permian Qixia stratum, which achieved good geological results and provided an useful reference for more underground karst water discoveries in limestone areas in the future. The application of geophysical methods is irreplaceable in the discovery of underground karst water. It can effectively reduce the cecity of only using drills to dig wells and improve the success rate of water discovery.
